It has been over 30 years since Chaos A.D. descended on us mere mortals. As one of Sepultura’s most influential albums, it has shaped the sounds of metal for decades and has inspired bands such as Gojira and Slipknot.

Max Cavalera, Igor Cavalera, Max Cavalera’s son Igor Amadeus Cavalera, and Travis Stone played the album in full to a diverse demographic of fans. It was a searing reminder of how Chaos A.D.‘s legacy still lives on.

New Orleans thrash/death metal band Herakleion opened the show with a ferocious performance and plenty of head banging. Even though the group just started in 2021, Herakleion already played like seasoned pros, not to mention the nerves of opening for such celebrated bands.

Up next was industrial metal band Fear Factory. Though bassist Dino Cazares is the only original member, Fear Factory still have the live presence to make the fans go wild. Considering how this was a night of nostalgia, the band focused on songs from the classic 90s albums Demanufacture and Obsolete.

Vocalist Milo Silvestro, who has only been with the band for two years, energetically performed throughout the set and engaged with the crowd as he ran across the stage.

As Cavalera Conspiracy emerged, with a simple set-up and comically had two flat screens on the stage for visuals, the audience made it very well known why they were there.

The band immediately ripped into the classics “Refuse/Resist” and “Slave New World” before playing every song on the album besides “Clenched Fist.” The circle pits and moshing intensified as the vocalist and guitarist Max Cavalera ordered more moshing.

Adding an element of surprise, Cavalera Conspiracy didn’t play the songs in order according to the album. It was a nice touch to a set that could have otherwise felt formulaic.

From the original Sepultura fans of the 80s to teenagers, all age groups were represented. It truly felt like an amalgamation of every era of Sepultura.

It doesn’t matter if over 30 years have passed since Chaos AD because one thing will never change: the endearing love metalheads have for Sepultura.
