One thing is for sure at a Jungle concert: you’re going to groove. The British collective’s set at Texas Trust CU Theatre was the perfect stress reliever for a Friday night.
Opener Rio Kosta’s psychedelic jams were a relaxing element before Jungle’s more concise style. The LA-based group has a unique blend of international sounds that were heavily influenced by the 60s and 70s, which was a clean introduction to Jungle’s soulful, disco-laden arrangements.
Jungle have never strayed too far from the sound of the 2014 self-titled debut that catapulted the band onto the indie scene, but the live performances were able to bring new life into tracks from all across the discography.

A particular highlight was an extended version of the lowkey “Casio.” Developing into a grandiose jam, it packed a punch as the intensity crescendoed. Though Jungle is officially a trio, the extensive live band and backing vocalists meant the arrangements always felt fresh.
The crowd was in a dancing spirit, and even security had to groove a bit with the catchy rhythms and melodies all the way from self-titled album to this year’s Sunshine.
Gorgeous lighting in blues, reds, and oranges encompassed most of the set, with sleek production design and a simple-is-better approach with the backing LED screen that complimented the music itself.
Jungle closed out the night with the biggest hit “Busy Earnin’” and a bow, they earned every clap and the ardent praise from fans.
