Legendary guitarist Kerry King hasn’t been resting on his laurels since Slayer‘s retirement and gradual comeback. Since the release of his debut solo album From Hell I Rise last year, King has been steadfastly proving there’s still plenty of fuel left in the tank with consistent international tours for new and old fans alike.
King’s stop in Dallas, Texas at The Studio at the Factory on Saturday had minimal chatter and maximum riffs as Kerry King and his tremendous band ripped through both Slayer tunes and King’s From Hell I Rise.

Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda, Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, Phil Demmel of Machine Head, and former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph were in top form, which help from the crossover thrash jokesters in Municipal Waste and New Zealand heavy metal act Alien Weaponry.
Despite only being a trio, Alien Weaponry showed how powerful a simple yet engaging lineup can be. Dramatic lighting and emotional themes captivated the crowd even with the band’s smaller time slot.
Municipal Waste’s performance let to moshing mayhem as the five-piece brought the fun to a cold night and applauded Dallas for being the first city on the tour to throw a trash can (with frontman Tony Foresta joking about there being several Stone Cold Steve Austin lookalikes in the crowd).
There were Slayer shirts seen across the venue, but King’s decision to spread out Slayer songs throughout the set with his solo material made the layout of the show delightfully unpredictable and more dynamic. It’s hard to go wrong with such a talented and well-rounded group of musicians, so really, it’s not surprising that Kerry King and his gang of thrash metal titans were in top-tier form for the whole evening.
