It was bittersweet watching Tennis take a final bow during the Dallas stop of the duo’s farewell tour. For fifteen years, the indie pop act exuded a 70s soft rock charm and filtered it through modern production for seven studio albums.

When Tennis recently announced the indefinite hiatus, frontwoman Alaina Moore commented on the significance of the band’s tour: “We are ready to pursue other creative projects and to make space in our lives for new things. In that light, the upcoming tour feels more poignant, like a concluding thought.”

Moore pointed out the gratitude and positive energy they felt during the middle of Tennis’ set at The Bomb Factory in Dallas. Even though the vibe of the pair’s live iteration is generally low key and relaxed, there was a clear emotional perspective throughout the evening.

The night heavily featured songs from the latter half of the band’s catalog- including several selections from the 2025 LP Face Down in the Garden. The biggest reaction of the night came from Swimmer track “Need Your Love”- a delightful piano-driven pop song that reminded everyone to soak in the moment before it’s all over.

Billie Marten’s stunning acoustic performance was a calming step to Tennis’ bouncier, peppier mood. As she chatted with the audience between songs, her charm and wit added dimension to the appeal of her gently gliding voice.

Even though the night was bittersweet, being able to experience the farewell and celebrate the band’s legacy made the time that much more important- an opportunity to live in the moment and cherish what we had instead of what we don’t have in the future.
